Family holidays are a great source of comfort and happy memories for many people, with most looking back on their childhood vacations with fondness.
From long summer caravan breaks to half-term getaways in the sun, family holidays can take many different forms. After all, every family is different and will look for different ways to relax together. Some will be active and keen to explore, whilst others prefer a slower pace to their well-earned breaks. How do you spend your family holidays? If you’re looking to try a new type of getaway this year but aren’t sure what type of family friendly holidays there are, we’ve put together some classic styles that you might want to try with your family.
Beach Holidays
For many people, nothing compares to the sound of waves lapping against a sandy shore with the smell of sea air to boot. Long strolls along the coast, picnics on the sand and dips in the sea are the hallmarks of a traditional British summer holiday. With a bucket and spade, beach towel and ice cream in tow, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn’t enjoy the beautiful simplicity of a beach holiday.
Almost everyone has grainy photos of themselves as a child on the seafront, so if you’re keen to continue the tradition, a beach holiday might just be on the cards this year. We have two stunning holiday parks on the Great British coast: Sunbeach and Glan Y Mor. The latter is directly on the coastline, offering unrivalled views of the North Welsh beach. Complete with an indoor pool, a soft play centre and an onsite restaurant, Glan Y Mor is an all-encompassing park perfect for a family friendly getaway.
Sunbeach holiday park offers guests spectacular beach views alongside luxury caravan accommodation. There is also an onsite playground, a clubhouse and bar, and a football/basketball court. This means guests can take advantage of all the beauty of the beach, as well as a range of other onsite activities to suit family members of every age.
Hiking
For those who prefer something a little more active and adventurous, a hiking holiday is perfect. You don’t need to travel all the way to Yellowstone National Park in America to find excellent hiking trails, we have plenty right here in the UK! With 16 national trails to choose from, equating to more than 2,500 miles in England and Wales alone, there is ample opportunity for keen adventurists to put their boots on and go walking.
Here at Allens Caravans, we have a number of holiday parks in and around the scenic Cotswolds area in the heart of the UK which is host to the Cotswold Way national trail. It stretches 102 miles from Chipping Campden to Bath, which means our ever popular Abbots Salford park is conveniently placed just north of the national trail, making it the perfect option for those looking to go on a family hiking holiday. The park features a heated outdoor pool and an onsite restaurant for guests to relax in after their hiking efforts.
Golfing
Every family will have a sport they love, be it football, hockey, cricket or gymnastics. Pair that with a healthy dose of family rivalry and you’re in for an unforgettable family holiday that will be a source of fond memories for years to come. Who knows, a sporty holiday might also uncover a hidden superstar in your clan!
Find out if you have the next Tiger Woods in your family at our brand new luxury holiday park, Bredon View. Enjoy hitting the fairway on the pitch and putt course onsite. Not only will you be able to indulge in some slow-paced golf afternoons, but you can also head over the new clubhouse and bar when you’re done.
Fishing
Some families love the great outdoors and all things natural, and they like nothing more than being hands on and teaching key skills that can be used later on in life. Not only is it good for bonding, but often, being out in the throws of nature is a relaxing form of therapy for many. One of the best ways to enjoy nature is to go fishing, and The Springs holiday park in the Cotswolds has its own private fishing lake onsite to accommodate for this. This is the perfect park for families looking to learn new skills and bond together.
In addition to the fishing lake, the site is surrounded by nature trails, and there is also live entertainment and a pet-friendly policy so the whole family can enjoy their break.
