Moving into a Park Home | Guides | Allens Caravans
Allens Caravans

Regardless of where you’re going, relocating can be a stressful process, especially in the absence of a moving checklist. It’s not a quick and easy procedure, and steps need to be taken up to months in advance.

Here at Allens Caravans, we want to make the transition as seamless as possible when welcoming you onto one of our residential parks. So, we’ve put together a handy checklist to assist you in keeping everything in order as you make the leap into one of our park homes.

Two Months Before You Move

If you’re moving out of rented accommodation, the first step will be to notify your landlord that you’ll be vacating their property. Upon reaching an agreement with the landlord, you can begin researching the facilities within your new area such as doctors’ surgeries and dentists.

Decluttering and Organising

Upon notifying the landlord and researching your prospective area, you should begin to declutter all rooms in your house, removing unnecessary items that you don’t want to bring along with you. You should be strict with yourself on what you’ll be getting rid of as too much junk will take away from the freshness of your new home. It’s also important to bear in mind that all our park homes are equipped with kitchen appliances and essential household furniture, so these won’t have to come with you on moving day.

Next, you should notify your broadband provider about your change of address and start collecting cardboard boxes. The majority of local shops, pubs, and restaurants will be happy to give you their old boxes, so don’t fork out purchasing new ones.

One Month Before You Move

Once the one-month mark rolls around, you’ll need to organise your moving assistance and ensure that your van will have access to our park. Following this, you should inform HMRC of your change of address, register to vote, and register your new address for council tax. Similarly, you should contact Royal Mail to arrange post redirection.

Insurance and Inventory

After you’ve completed the various registrations, you might look into moving insurance, as well as transferring your current home insurance over to your park home. In regard to this, you should create a list of your home’s inventory and take photos of all the furniture that you’ll be bringing with you. Finally, you should begin to clean and pack outside areas such as the garage, shed, and garden.

Two Weeks Before You Move

A fortnight ahead of your moving date, you should pack anything that isn’t essential for the following two weeks and label your boxes with their destination room. You might also make the effort to use up all your frozen food to prevent waste. Additionally, now is a good time to ensure that your car is serviced and in good condition and make arrangements for any necessary child and pet care. Speaking of children, you’ll need to send copies of your children’s records to their new school.

Organising Your Time

Following packing, you should register to the GP in your new area and contact the DVLA to change your address on your driving licence and V5C. Finally, you should request any time off work that you need for the move and consider booking a storage unit if necessary.

One Week Before You Move

Upon hitting the one-week mark, you should be sure to confirm the date and time of your move with the moving company. Similarly, you should provide them with any directions they might need for a seamless journey.

After this, you should finish packing up your belongings by order of how essential they are and also pack a bag of fundamentals to carry separately on moving day. Next, you can start to disassemble less important furniture items and any fitted wall items, whilst repairing any damage to the property.

It might be a good idea to arrange a final walkthrough and inspection with your landlord if you’re vacating a rented property. Finally, you’ll need to redirect your TV licence to your park home.

Three Days Before You Move

When you’ll be moving in a matter of days, you should take this time to finish up on any laundry that you have. Following this, you should remove all old house keys from your keyring and make a list of all contact numbers that you’ll need in the first few days of your move. Similarly, you should contact your new utility companies to set up your account in your park home.

After this, you should pack your documents and valuables separately for easy and secure access. Finally, you should throw away any leftover food and defrost your fridges and freezer.

Moving Day

On the big day, you’ll need to put together your plan for packing up the van and start loading. You should give your old home one final sweep to ensure that you’re not leaving anything behind and give it a thorough clean. Next, you should lock up all your doors and windows and take note of the current metre readings. Following this, you should take photos of each room to prove their condition and return your keys to the relevant party.

Vacating Your Old Home

Upon vacating the property, you should carry your bag of fundamentals on your person so that they don’t get lost in and amongst the van. Once you have reached your park home and unloaded your van, you should perform a thorough check to ensure that nothing has been left in the van.

You can now begin to unpack your belongings and make yourself at home!
