The begining of Allens Autos
Allens Caravans began life as Allens Autos in the heart of the Black Country, Wolverhampton. In those early days, the family business was built around selling cars before taking a new direction that would shape the future of Allens.

The start of Allens Caravans
Following the success of caravan sales, Bill Allen established Allens Caravans in 1947. Looking to expand, he came across Wootton Hall, now the home of Allens Caravans, and began leasing space within the grounds to site caravans there. It was a defining moment that laid the foundations for the company’s future.

A new home for the family
In 1956, Bill Allen purchased the grounds of Wootton Hall from the estate owners, followed by the entire estate in 1957. He then moved the Allens Caravans head office to the grounds, where it proudly remains today.

Suppourting a rapidly growing industry
In 1957, Allens Caravans hosted the first ever Midlands Caravan Exhibition at Wootton Hall. The show went on to become an annual event and a significant moment in the growth of the caravan and holiday park industry in the UK.

A big change for the business
In the 1960s, Bill Allen visited America and saw the growing popularity of residential park homes and holiday caravans. Convinced the same lifestyle would appeal in the UK, he brought the idea home, and caravan sales soon overtook the company’s original car business.

A family of holiday parks
Over the decades, Allens Caravans continued to grow, both acquiring existing parks and developing brand-new ones. This included parks across the Midlands, such as Abbot’s Salford, Bredon View and Overstone Lakes in Northampton, as well as two coastal parks in Wales, Aber Bay and Sunbeach.
