Some love fishing, and some love caravan holidays - at Allens, we excel in offering the best of each. If you like one or both of those things, read on to learn about our holiday parks with fishing lakes.
There are many reasons why people choose to spend their holidays fishing. There’s a slowing down to the pace of life that is vital for recovering from the stresses and strains of everyday living. There’s a sense of purpose in encouraging a connection between fish and man. There’s the opportunity to spend hours at a time in some of the most beautiful natural surroundings - preferably with smartphones turned off!
The poet Ted Hughes described it best: “Fishing provides that connection with the whole living world. It gives you the opportunity to be totally immersed, turning back into yourself in a good way. A form of meditation, some form of communion with levels of yourself that are deeper than the ordinary self.”
Fishing Lake or River Fishing?
Every fisherman or woman will know that there is a marked difference between lake fishing and river fishing. There are those who will try (and enjoy) both. There are others who favour one above the other.
River fishing is generally more challenging, with fish levels waxing and waning depending on the time of year and migratory patterns of the indigenous fish
For many, it is the challenging nature of river fishing that is so enticing. It is finding the right spot where the fish are passing in waters that ebb and flow according to the time of day. Different fish will favour different conditions and will behave differently at different times of the day or as the weather changes. It is the acknowledgement of the fact that it may take longer to catch your fish, if at all, but the nature of being at one with the elements exacerbates the thrill of the chase.
Lake fishing is generally easier and, as a result, slightly more relaxing. In general, a fishing lake has deeper water, and because there is less movement of water, this makes it slightly easier to catch a fish.
The UK has a wealth of artificial and natural lake fishing sites, all offering a range of challenges for both the beginner and the more experienced lovers of fishing.
Allens Overstone Solarium residential park, in particular, is famous for its coarse fishing. Coarse fishing is the name given to fishing for common fish that are not considered suitable for food. The typical fish in this category is carp, which come in a variety of sizes and can be a challenging fish to catch and land - but very satisfying once you do!
Overstone Solarium is a residents-only park, but our holiday park with fishing lakes is Overstone Lakes.
