Five of the Best Festive Activities in the Cotswolds

  • 5th Dec 2017

While for some, winter is a time for hibernation and recuperation after a busy year, for others, there's something extra magical about the build-up to Christmas. Crisp morning breezes, frost underfoot and a hot chocolate in front of the fire to really start off your day in style (with the much-needed post-walk warm up afterwards) - ahh, the joys of winter!

Clear skies with stars shining bright, twinkly lights on the horizon with people making their way home to friends and family for festive fun and to make memories - what more could you ask for? For many of our residents here at Allen's Caravans, the build-up to Christmas is not just a time to celebrate but a time for family.

Festive Family Fun

With family visiting, festive feasts on the menu and the spirit of Christmas all around, life in our residential caravan parks are every bit as magical as you would expect. The beautiful Cotswold countryside looks even more enchanting with the fog eclipsing the top of the hills, a fresh covering of frost (or even snow) and crunchy leaves everywhere you look.

We have a number of residential parks in Worcestershire and the Cotswolds area, and you can stay active all year round. Whether you make use of the all-weather bowling rinks, indoor swimming pools or fancy a catch up with your neighbours and loved ones, you can.

However, if you are looking for something more festive to really get you in Christmas mode, then keep reading.

Broadway Christmas Shopping

The quaint village of Broadway is kicking off the Christmas season in style with late-night shopping on November 24th and December 1st for any Christmas shopping you may want to get out of the way. With mulled wine, mince pies and carol singers on the cards, you can get warmed up for Christmas until 8.30pm.

Christmas Markets & Festivals

There's something extra special about Christmas markets and festivals. Hot drinks, festive treats, handmade gifts galore and plenty of entertainment for the whole family - from carol singers and nativity scenes to ice skating and special appearances by Father Christmas himself; if this isn't enough to get you feeling Christmassy, nothing is!

Light Switch On

For many people, the build-up to Christmas doesn't really get going until the Christmas lights have been turned on in the local town. These tend to start from mid-November so keep an eye out and see if you can't see the magic happening for yourself!

Chocolate Making

Chocolate is a big part of Christmas - from Yule Logs and Advent Calendars through to the obligatory box of chocolates to finish off your day - so why not get involved and make your own? Create your own hand-made box of truffles ready to gift-wrap for a loved one (or to indulge in after your infamous Christmas lunch) - what a wonderful way to get in the spirit of Christmas!

Sudeley Castle Spectacle of Light

The stunning castle's annual illumination is not to be missed - with the castle and grounds beautifully lit between 8th and 30th December. With festive food and drink on offer, this magical location is really brought to life underneath the stars.

With so much going on over the next few weeks, Christmas will be here before you know it! Someone, please pass the mince pies...
