What on earth is glamping? | News | Allens Caravans

Let’s face it – camping isn’t the most luxurious way to spend your hard-earned time off, whether it’s on holiday from work or away on a weekend break. Pitching up tents and praying that it doesn’t rain have plagued conventional camping experiences of the past, however now there’s a new method of camping which brings it into the 21st century.

The latest travel craze amongst young professionals and inner city slickers, according to the Oxford Dictionary, glamping is the term given to “a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping”.

These facilities often include Wi-Fi, state-of-the-art kitchens and stylish interiors, swapping the board games and packet food for comfy beds and solar panels.

Ideal for enjoying the great outdoors without getting rid of the gadgets, they’re also becoming more and more popular as an ethical solution to travelling by plane amongst those concerned about their carbon emissions.

Glamping: Glamorous Camping Made Simple Worldwide

Combining glamour and accessibility with camping, the term has become more and more popular thanks to the success of websites which offer glamping facilities, making a last minute caravan holiday or camping excursion as easy as possible for those who choose to go on them. Many specialist websites, like www.goglamping.net or www.love-glamping.co.uk, make the process even easier by displaying a variety of stunning locations across the world where glamping facilities are available as residential park homes for short stays.

A common theme amongst glamping holidays is the unconventional types of accommodation available, including yurts, tipis, log cabins, providing a romantic and bohemian environment for their luxury camping holiday.

Glamping facilities, also known as glamp sites, have also popped up as a popular alternative to camping, caravans and hotels when attending a music festival, with Mick Jagger most famously staying in a luxury yurt during the 2013 Glastonbury festival.

So now you know what glamping is all about, why not browse online and plan your ultimate luxury getaway, with many websites offering a variety of exciting locations both overseas and right here in the UK.
