On Location: Severnside

If you are in search of a relaxing caravan or fishing holiday then you may want to go west. Worcestershire is a beautiful county; rich in natural splendour and steeped in history, its hidden gems consist of breath-taking rural landscapes and countryside corners of tranquillity, like Severnside Holiday Park in Stourport-on-Severn. Severnside benefits from its onsite facilities for private fishing on the river Severn as well as its convenient distance from regional attractions, such as the area’s stunning nature reserves and historical towns like Stourbridge.

Lying on the river Severn and nestled in the Wyre Forest district of North Worcestershire, Stourport is a 18th century town that emerged as a result of the junction between the river Severn and the river Stour, a prime location for canal basins and locks which opened the area up to trade and transport. Throughout the 18th century, the town underwent rapid expansion due to its growing industries, including iron foundries, mills and boat building. Thanks to this rapid growth and the unique history that surrounds the Georgian canal at the heart of today’s Stourport, the town is an interesting mix of eras and industries to explore. Further afield there are attractions such as the River Severn Meadows which offers green space and boats to hire among other river based activities. The Hartlebury Common Nature Reserve is a place of scientific interest and also offers pleasant scenery which can be enjoyed from pedestrian, cycle or equestrian trails. For those who are partial to a tipple Astley Vineyard, which was established in the 1970s, is an interesting day out with options to explore, taste and shop. Stourbridge is just a short drive from Stourport and offers plenty of historical and cultural pursuits, including listed buildings to explore and museums dedicated to the town’s notable glass industry which began in the 1600s. Stourbridge itself is famed for its glass as well as its list of famous residents which have included Samuel Johnson, the author of the first English dictionary (1755) and Kenton Allen, the TV executive responsible for the lampoon masterpiece The Royle Family (1998-2000).

Once you tire of exploring you can relax back at the holiday park and take advantage of the onsite facilities which include a heated outdoor swimming pool, the Riverside Clubhouse and the riverside fishing and walks. The homes at Severnside offer full underground services, added security courtesy of a barrier at the park’s entrance and year-round residential staff onsite.

Whether you are after a bit of peace and tranquillity, a new corner of the country to explore or some top class riverside fishing, the beautiful and conveniently located Severnside Park in Stourport, Worcestershire is the perfect holiday park for you.
