Things to see and do in Northamptonshire

Nestled in amongst lakes and acres of woodland, Allens' Overstone Lakes Park has facilities which cater for all the family. Complete with a large, heated outdoor pool and a variety of walks in the surrounding countryside, we have striven to provide you with everything you need to enjoy your stay at a holiday cabin in Northamptonshire! Click here for Allens Caravans.

However, if you feel like exploring this charming, friendly county and taking in some of the local colour, then we have compiled a range of well-known local attractions to ensure that you enjoy your time away with us to the fullest.

Rockingham Castle

Steeped in nearly 900 years of history, Rockingham Castle is the perfect day out for all you budding local history buffs. Built by none other than William the Conqueror, this remarkable castle has been home to the Watson family for 450 years, and has extensive grounds to amble around and explore. The castle itself also runs a number of guided tours so you can hear the full sordid history of the castle and its inhabitants.

Positioned as it is above the Welland Valley, it has been said that on a clear day visitors can see across five counties. The castle also has 12 acres of gardens, ideal for winding down in after an immersive walk through history.

Wicksteed Park

Arguably one of the best family attractions in the whole county, Wicksteed Park plays host to over 40 rides and attractions and is believed to be the second oldest theme park in the United Kingdom, having been opened in 1921. Located just 2 miles from the A14, the park is an easy drive from Overstone Lakes. Visit www.allenscaravans.co.uk to view Overstone Lakes today!

The focal point of the park is the lake at its centre. Having been refurbished extensively over the years, the lake has shingle beaches and a number of boardwalks out over the water. In addition to this and the rides, nearly 150 acres of Wicksteed Park lay on Grade II listed parkland, on which people are encouraged to camp, picnic and play!

Silverstone

The undisputed home of British Motor Sport and a Formula 1 staple, Silverstone is one of those iconic locations everyone has heard of. Even if you only have a passing interest in motor racing, this race track is steeped in history, stories and excitement.

Aside from a roster of regular racing events in a variety of vehicles, Silverstone also offers a more hands on experience. There are a range of experiences and track days on offer throughout the year, where you can get behind the wheel with a professional driver or you can even have a go on this world famous track in your own vehicle! Of course, there are also walking tours of the site which give a unique, behind the scenes look at the legendary track. View here for Silverstone race track.

All of these are well known local attractions, but this is just a taster of what Northamptonshire has to offer! Here at Allens Caravans, we have a number of high quality holiday parks across the country.
